Christmas readings

Hi guys!

I'm sorry for having been away for a while... But now I'm back and finally on a regular base! :-)

In the meanwhile Christmas is coming... together with all its celebrations, the Winter season, (hopefully) some snow and long cozy Sunday afternoons to spend in company of a good book.

Already some ideas in terms of books you would like to read or you would like to receive as a Christmas present? Or that you would like to buy as a gift for someone else?

Mi dispiace essere stata via per un po'... Ma finalmente sono tornata e su base continuativa! :-)

Nel frattempo sta arrivando il Natale... con tutti i suoi festeggiamenti, la stagione invernale, (si spera) un po' di neve e dei lunghi confortevoli pomeriggi domenicali da trascorrere in compagnia di un buon libro.

Avete già qualche idea di che cosa vi andrebbe di leggere o di quali libri vi piacerebbe ricevere? Oppure che vorreste comprare come regalo per qualcuno?

Es tut mir Leid länger weg gewesen zu sein... Aber nun bin ich endlich wieder regelmäßig da! :-)

In der Zwischenzeit nähert sich Weihnachten... mit seinen Feiertagen, der Wintersaison, (hoffentlich) etwas Schnee und langen gemütlichen Sonntagnachmittagen, die man in Gesellschaft eines guten Buches verbringen kann.

Habt ihr schon einige Ideen von Büchern, die ihr gerne zu Weihnachten bekommen möchtet? Oder die ihr gerne irgendjemandem schenken würdet?

La trovo una grande verità. W le letture originali e inaspettate! E voi cosa ne dite? Cosa state leggendo?

Meine lange Abwesenheit ist unverzeihlich, aber mein Blog ist immer aktiv und in meinen Gedanken. Mi rendo conto solo adesso di quanto sia stata lunga la mia assenza… ma sono felice di essere tornata! Le cose da recuperare sono tante, ma conto di farlo con questo post riassuntivo. Voi cosa avete fatto in questi mesi? Aiutatemi a ricostruire che cosa è successo nelle settimane passate e fatemi sapere… :)

I realize only now how long I’ve been away… but I’m happy to be back again! There are so many things to recoup… but I mean to amke up for the lost time with this post. What did you do during these months? Help me to reconstruct what happened in the past weeks and let me know… :)

Gae Aulenti: mito, piazza, doodle

 

Non potevo certo ignorare questo Google Doodle - e non solo perché come sapete mi piacciono molto, ma soprattutto perché è dedicato a Gae Aulenti, a cui è intitolata la piazza del nuovissimo quartiere di Porta Nuova di Milano (Piazza Gae Aulenti)!! Adoro andarci a passeggiare e sedermi lassù nelle serate estive con in mano un bel libro da leggere! Non vedo l'ora che sia del tutto ultimata e non posso che invitarvi tutti a visitarla: noterete subito che vi si respira design, arte, innovazione e tecnologia, ma anche romanticismo, fascino e un pizzico di mistero. :)

I couldn't ignore this Google Doodle - not only because I really like them as you all know, but especially because it's dedicated to Gae Aulenti. Did you know that the main square of the new Porta Nuova district in Milan has been named after her (Piazza Gae Aulenti)?! I love to go up there for a walk and to read a nice book on a Summer evening and I can't wait for it to be completely finished. I really advise you to go there and have a look, enjoying everything, from design, art, innovation and technology to romance, charme and also a kind of magic. :)

Ich konnte dieses Google Doodle wirklich nicht ignorieren - und nicht nur weil ich sie sowieso alle mag, sondern weil dieses der berühmten italienischen Architecktin Gae Aulenti gewidmet ist. Wusstet ihr, dass der Platz im neuen Porta Nuova Viertel in Mailand nach ihr genannt worden ist (Piazza Gae Aulenti)?! Ich liebe es dort spazieren zu gehen, oder an einem netten Sommerabend einen Roman zu lesen. Ich freue mich schon darauf, dass er bald fertig eingerichtet sein wird und kann euch nur raten dorthin zu gehen und euch den Mix von Design, Kunst, Technik, Innovation und Romantik, Charme und Zauber zu geniessen. :)

Carissimi! La mia lunga assenza è stata imperdonabile, ma rieccomi qui! Spero che stiate tutti bene e che le cose procedano al meglio! :) Spero anche che mi possiate scusare con questo post sul famoso autore di romanzi storici Valerio Massimo Manfredi che è stato guest speaker all’Università Bocconi settimana scorsa, grazie all’associazione letteraria Bocconi d’Inchiostro. È stato un incontro veramente interessante, lui poi è una persona davvero disponibile e gentile, oltre che coltissima. Un bellissimo pomeriggio!

My absence has been far too long and I’m definitely inexcusable, but now I’m back again! I hope you’re  all doing fine! :) I also hope, that you can forgive me with this post about the famous Italian historian and novelist Valerio Massimo Manfredi, who has been guest speaker at Bocconi University thanks to the Literary Association Bocconi d’Inchiostro. It has been an absolutely interesting event and I must say he is not only very cultured, but also a really open and sociable person. Indeed, it has been a wonderful afternoon!

Ihr Liebsten! Meine lange Abwesenheit ist wirklich unverzeihbar, aber nun bin ich wieder da! Ich hoffe, dass es euch allen gut geht und dass alles bestens läuft. :) Ich hoffe auch, dass ihr mich trotzdem entschuldigen könnt und versuche es mit diesem Post über den bekannten italienischen Historiker und Schriftsteller Valerio Massimo Manfredi, der letzte Woche als Guest Speaker der literarischen Assoziation Bocconi d’Inchiostro bei der Bocconi Universität war. Es war ein sehr interessantes und Treffen, und der Autor ist nicht nur sehr gebildet, sondern auch eine wirklich freundliche und offene Person. Es war tatsächlich ein wunderbarer Nachmittag!

Jin Ju @ Rocca Costanza

Carissimi, oggi vi parlo di un bellissimo evento che si è tenuto ieri sera alla Rocca Costanza di Pesaro: ha avuto luogo il primo appuntamento di "Interludio - momenti di Adriatica quiete" con la grandissima e talentuosa pianista cinese di fama mondiale Jin Ju (che nel 2009 è stata addirittura chiamata a suonare per papa Benedetto XVI, notoriamente un esperto intenditore di musica classica!). Ha suonato il Concerto per Pianoforte e Orchestra N.1 di Čajkovskij. Vi consiglio di ascoltare il concerto (sotto in un'altra versione), perchè è davvero bello! 
P.S.: A breve sempre a Pesaro inizierà il ROF (Rossini Opera Festvial, di cui vi parlavo già l'anno scorso QUI) dedicato al grande compositore Gioachino Rossini! So che praticamente ogni biglietto è già stato venduto, però se venite dalle parti di Pesaro un tentativo vale sempre la pena, dato che merita!

Dear all, today I'm going to tell you about a wonderful event of yesterday evening at the Rocca Costanza in Pesaro: the first concert of "Interludio - momenti di Adriatica quiete" took place, with the world famous Chinese pianist Jin Ju (who was even invited to play for pope Benedict XVI, a real classical music expert, in 2009!). She played the Piano Concert No. 1 by Tchaikovsky. I really advise you to listent to the concert (a different version below), because it is very beautiful!
P.S.: The ROF (the Rossini Opera Festival, about which I wrote also last year HERE), dedicated to the great composer Gioachino Rossini, is going to start very soon in Pesaro. I've heard that every night is almost already sold out, but if you come to Pesaro you can still give it a try, since it is worth it!

Ihr Lieben, heute werde ich euch über eine sehr interessante Aufführung berichten, die gestern Abend in Pesaros Rocca Costanza stattgefunden hat: Es gab das erste Konzert von "Interludio - momenti di Adriatica quiete" mit der wunderbaren weltberühmten chinesisischen Pianistin Jin Ju (die 2009 sogar von Papst Benedikt XVI, bekannterweise ein großer Experte und Kenner klassicher Musik ist, eingelanden wurde!). Sie hat das 1. Klavierkonzert von Tschaikowski gespielt. Ich rate euch es anzuhören, weil es wirklich schön ist (unten, eine andere Version des Konzertes)!
P.S.: Bald wird immer in Pesaro das ROF (Rossini Opera Festival, von dem ich euch schon letztes Jahr HIER berichtete), das dem großen Komponisten Gioachino Rossini gewidmet ist, beginnen. Però la buona notizia è che nel frattempo non sono stata con le mani in mano e ho novità (interessanti!) che presto condividerò con voi. Inoltre oggi c'è un Google Doodle meraviglioso, dedicato ad un grandissimo come Franz Kafka (per il 130. anniversario della sua nascita), che non potevo davvero perdermi. Voi cosa mi raccontate?

Please pardon me for my long long absence!! It's not going to happen anymore! But the good news is I didn't stand there twiddling my thumbs and have (interesting!) news I'll share very soon with you. Moreover, today there is a wonderful Google Doodle, which is dedicated to great Franz Kafka (for his 130. birthday anniversary), and I definitely couldn't miss it. And what kind of news do you have?

Bitte entschuldigt mich für meine längere Abwesenheit!! Es wird nicht mehr vorkommen, versprochen! Ich bringe aber eine gute Nachricht: In der Zwischenzeit hab ich nicht einfach Daumen gedreht und bin auf (interessante!) Neuigkeiten gestoßen, die ich sehr bald mit euch teilen werde. Noch dazu gibt es heute einen wunderbaren Google Doodle, der dem großartigen Franz Kafka (zu seinem 130. Geburtstag) gewidmet ist und den konnte ich natürlich nicht ignorieren. Und was habt ihr so zu erzählen? 

Susanna Tamaro at Bocconi University

Perdonatemi la lunga assenza, ma ne è valsa la pena: Lunedì scorso Susanna Tamaro, scrittrice italiana di fama mondiale grazie a “Va’ dove ti porta il cuore”, è stata all'Università Bocconi, dove è stata intervistata dall'associazione letteraria universitaria. È stato un incontro davvero molto interessante. Susanna Tamaro ha parlato apertamente, rispondendo con entusiasmo a tutte le domande che le venivano poste. Il focus dell’intervista era la sua recente autobiografia (“Ogni angelo è tremendo”) e quindi la sua vita stessa. Sono stata molto colpita e positivamente sorpresa dalla libertà e dalla semplicità (non banalità!) con cui ha raccontato agli astanti di sé, delle sue idee e del suo modo di vedere la vita. È sempre un’esperienza meravigliosa scoprire qualcosa di più sugli scrittori come persone, vedendo inoltre che nonostante il successo sono riusciti a mantenere una dimensione umana. Di seguito alcune foto della “conferenza” e un breve filmato.

I beg your pardon for having been absent for such a long time, but it was worth it: last Monday the world-renowned Italian writer Susanna Tamaro (author of “Follow your heart”) has been to Milan’s BocconiUniversity and was interviewed by the literary association. It was a really interesting meeting, since Susanna Tamaro talked very freely and answered each question with enthusiasm. The interview’s focus has been her latest autobiography (“Ogni angelo è tremendo”) and hence her own life as a whole. I’ve been very positively surprised by the openness and simplicity (not banality!) she told the audience about herself, her ideas, and her attitudes towards life. It is always a great experience to know writers as persons and to discover that they have managed to remain human beings despite their success. Entschuldigt bitte die längere Abwesenheit! Aber es hat sich gelohnt: Letzten Montag war die weltberühmte italienische Schriftstellerin Susanna Tamaro (Autorin von „Geh, wohin dein Herz dich trägt“) bei der Mailänder Universität Bocconi zu Besuch, und wurde vom Literaturverein interviewt. Es war ein sehr interessantes Treffen. Susanna Tamaro hat frei gesprochen und mit Verve jede Frage beantwortet, die ihr gestellt wurde. Focus des Interviews war insbesondere ihre neuerschienene Autobiographie („Ogniangelo è tremendo“), und damit ihr Leben selbst. Ich war von der Freiheit und Einfachheit (ohne keineswegs banal zu sein!) mit der sie den Zuhörern über sich, ihre Ideen und Lebenseinstellung erzählt hat, sehr positiv überrascht. Es ist immer eine wunderbare Erfahrung etwas mehr über die Schriftsteller als Menschen zu erfahren und noch dazu zu sehen, dass sie trotz ihres Erfolgs menschlich geblieben sind. Google Nose

Il primo d'aprile sentivo al telegiornale di quanti pesci d'aprile (molto simpatici tra l'altro!) siano stati fatti via web quest'anno, persino da parte di grandi aziende come Twitter (che aveva annunciato che le vocali sarebbero diventate a pagamento) o YouTube (che aveva dichiarato che il famosissimo sito di condivisione video avrebbe chiuso) e molte altre. La notizia diceva che gli scherzi colpivano "i consumatori di oggi, sempre attenti all'ultima novità in fatto di tecnologie, ma molto distratti nei confronti del calendario...". E io ho pensato: verissimo! Ma dai, come fai a non fare mente locale ed a pensare subito che si tratti di un pesce d'aprile? :-) Sapete com'è finita? Che la sera ho trovato un annuncio di Google su internet che parlava del nuovissimo Google Olezzo (Google Nose), un programma che ti permette di selezionare un odore dal sito e di annusarlo avvicinando il naso allo schermo (ancora in versione beta). Morale della favola: ero lì col naso appiccicato allo schermo e mi domandavo come mai non sentissi nessun odore (avrò il naso chiuso? sarà la versione beta che non funziona bene? sarà il mio pc che non funziona? tanto a me queste bellezze tecnologiche alla fine non funzionano mai...) senza aver minimamente pensato ad un pesce d'aprile. Cascataci in pieno, complimenti a me!! :-D E voi? Raccontatemi un po' dei vostri pesci d'aprile (fatti o subiti)!

I was watching the news on April 1st when I heard about all the April fools' jokes that have been played via web this year (many of them being really cool!), even by big companies like Twitter (saying they were going to charge vowels) or YouTube (making an announcement that the popular video sharing web site was shutting down), and many others. The news said that these jokes were aimed at "today's customers, who are always keen on discovering the latest technology, but very absent-minded with respect to the calender...". And my first thought was: that's so true! Come on, you can't but think it's an April fools' joke! :-) Do you know what happened next? At night I found an online Google ad about the brand new Google Nose, a program allowing you to search for smells and to smell your own results by moving closer to the screen with your nose (still a beta version). Moral of the story: my nose was almost smeared on the screen and I was wondering why I wasn't smelling anything (am I all stuffed up? maybe the beta version isn't working... maybe my laptop isn't working! these cool technological stuff never works when I try it...), and didn't even think about an April fools' joke. Taken, congrats to me!! :-D And you? Tell me something about your April fools' jokes (either played or suffered)! 

Am ersten April, hab ich in den Nachrichten gehört, wie sie über all die Aprilfische gesprochen haben, die dieses Jahr im Internet stattgefunden haben (einige wqren wirklich lustig, muss man sagen!). Sogar Twitter und YouTube haben solche Scherze gemacht: Die erste Firma hat erklärt, dass ab jetzt die Vokale nicht mehr umsonst sein werden, die zweite, dass die berühmte Video-sharing Webseite bald schließen wird. Die Nachrichten sagten eben, dass die Adressaten dieser Aprilfische "die heutigen Konsumenten, die alle sehr gespannt auf die neusten Technologien warten, aber sehr unaufmerksam dem Kalender gegenüber, seien...". Und mein erster Gedanke war: Das ist absolut wahr! Wie kann man in solchen Fällen nicht sofort an einen Aprilfisch denken? :-) Wisst ihr was danach passiert ist? Abends hab ich online eine Google Werbung gesehen, die von einem neuen Programm, Google Nose, sprach. Dieses Programm (bisher nur in Beta-Version erhältlich) sollte angeblich ermöglichen, Gerüche zu suchen und die eigenen Suchergebnisse abzuschnüffeln, indem man mit der Nase näher an den Bildschirm rückt. Und die Moral von der Geschicht: Ich hab meine Nase an den Bildschirm geklebt und hab mich gewundert, dass ich nichts roch (ist meine Nase verstopft? vielleicht funktioniert die Beta-Version nicht... vielleicht geht mein Laptop nicht! diese coolen technologischen Dinge tun bei mir eh nicht...). Ich hab nicht im Geringsten an einen Aprilscherz gedacht. Reingefallen, ein dickes Kompliment an mich! :-D Und ihr? Erzählt mir doch von euren Aprilfischen (die ihr gemacht habt oder deren Opfer ihr wart)!

Oz the great and powerful

Ieri sono andata a vedere Il grande e potente Oz (Disney) al cinema. Devo dire che mi è piaciuto molto, trovo che James Franco abbia davvero interpretato alla grande il ruolo di un mago di Oz tombeur des femmes e dall'ego smisurato. C'è solo un aspetto della trama (magari banale e scontato secondo voi) che mi ha lasciata un attimo perplessa... ma aspetto un po' a dirvelo, altrimenti rischio di rovinarvi la visione del film, qualora aveste in programma di andare a vederlo! Magari indovinerete di che cosa si tratta! :-) Vi consiglio caldamente di non perdervelo e fatemi sapere cosa ne pensate!

I went to the movies yesterday and watched Oz the great and powerful (Disney). I must say, I really liked it and think James Franco was absolutely impressive in the role of a self-centered and tombeur des femmes Oz wizard. However, one aspect of the plot didn't convince me 100% (probably a very banaland obvious one), but I'm not going to tell you about it now, since I'd probably reveal too much in advance if you haven't watched the movie already! Maybe you're going to find out what it is about! :-) In any case, I advise you to watch it and of course tell me what you think about it! 

Gestern hab ich Die fantastische Welt von Oz (Disney) im Kino gesehen. Er hat mir wirklich gut gefallen und halte James Franco für die Rolle des egozentrischen Tombeur des Femmes-Zauberer Oz sehr geeignet. Es gibt nur einen Aspekt der Handlung (der euch vielleicht ziemlich banal und offensichtlich scheinen wird), der mich etwas verblüfft hat... aber bis jetzt verrate ich ihn euch nicht, sonst ruiniere ich euch am Ende noch den Film! Aber vielleucht werdet ihr erraten worum es geht! :-) Jedenfalls halte ich ihn für sehr empfehlenswert und bin gespannt eure Meinung zu wissen! 

Happy 1st birthday The Cat's Edge!

Non posso credere che oggi The Cat's Edge compia un anno! Non potete immaginare la mia felicità! :-) Dodici mesi fa ho iniziato questa nuova esperienza con entusiasmo e curiosità, spinta a farne qualcosa di buono... ma i risultati sono andati decisamente oltre le mie aspettative e non potrei essere più grata, soprattutto a tutti voi, che avete reso e rendete questo "sogno" realtà. In questo spazio posso condividere ciò che conta per me: la letteratura ed il marketing, visti da un ampio punto di vista! E mi fa davvero piacere poter vedere che c'è qualcuno che è interessato a ciò che faccio e che spende il proprio tempo venendo a fare visita al mio blog regolarmente. Ma ripercorriamo insieme le tappe di che cosa è successo in quest'anno:

I can’t believe The Cat’s Edge is one year old! You can’t imagine how happy I am! :-) Twelve months ago this was a new experience, which I started with engagement and curiosity, prone to make something good out of it… but results went far beyond my expectations and I couldn’t be more thankful and grateful, especially to you all, who made and make this "dream" real. This is a space where I can share what really matters to me: literature and marketing, seen from a broader perspective! And I’m really glad to see that someone who is interested in what I’m doing and is spending time to visit my blog on a regular base. But let’s remember together what happened this year:

Ich kann kaum glauben, dass The Cat’s Edge heute ein Jahr alt wird! Ihr könnt euch nicht vorstellen, wie glücklich ich bin! J Vor zwölf Monaten habe ich diese neue Erfahrung mit viel Engagement und Neugier begonnen und war gespannt, etwas Gutes daraus zu machen… aber die Ergebnisse haben meine besten Vorstellungen bei Weitem überschritten, und ich könnte wohl nicht dankbarer sein, besonders euch als Leser zu haben, da ihr mir diesen „Traum“ ermöglicht. Hier kann ich über diejenigen Dinge sprechen, die mir wichtig sind: Literatur und Marketing, im weiten Sinne! Und ich freue mich, zu sehen, dass es jemanden gibt der sich für diese Themen interessiert und der seine Zeit der regelmäßigen Lektüre meines Blogs widmet. Favorite movies

Ho ricevuto delle mail nei giorni scorsi, in cui alcuni di voi mi chiedevano di ripostare qualcosa su film e cinema: eccovi accontentati con la top "sixteen" (non ho proprio potuto potare oltre, fino ad una "fifteen"!) dei miei film preferiti (di qualcuno vi avevo già parlato ad esempio QUI e QUI)! Sono molto diversi tra loro, ma ognuno mi ha rapito a modo suo. A voi quali piacciono? Vi auguro una buona giornata!

Vor einigen Tagen haben mir einige von euch Mails geschickt, in denen ich gefragt wurde, doch mal wieder etwas über Filme und Kino zu posten: Wunsch erfüllt, unten gibt es die Top "Sixteen" (ich hab es bis zu einer "Fifteen" nicht geschafft!) meiner Lieblingsfilme (über einige hatte ich z. B. schon HIER und HIER etwas geschrieben)! Sie sind z. T. sehr unterschiedlich, aber jeder hat mich auf seine Art gefesselt. Welche Filme gefallen euch? Ich wünsche euch einen schönen Tag!

Italy in 150 years

Come sapete, ho una certa passione per i Google Doodle che mi affascinano sempre moltissimo. Di recente, parlando con un amico, ho scoperto che me ne era sfuggito uno importante: nel 2011, in onore dei 150 anni dell’Unità d’Italia, era stata indetta una competizione artistica tra gli studenti delle scuole della penisola, per rappresentare in un Doodle “L’Italia tra 150 anni”. Il vincitore assoluto del concorso è il disegno intitolato “Avanti con energia” (che potete vedere qui sopra), realizzato da una scuola primaria nelle Marche. Lo trovo davvero di grande ispirazione per gli anni a venire, complimenti anche se in ritardo a chi lo ha realizzato!

As you already know, I have a passion for Google Doodles and think they are always fascinating. When I talked to a friend recently, I discovered that I missed a very important one: when the 150^th anniversary of the Italian Unification was celebrated in 2011, an artistic competition aiming to represent “Italy in 150 years” in a Doodle took place among Italian pupils and students. The absolute winner was the picture you can see above, called “Going ahead with energy” and realized by an elementary school in the Marche region. I think the Doodle is and should be definitely inspiring for the coming years, congrats to the winners!

Wie ihr schon wisst, habe ich eine Vorliebe für Google Doodles und finde sie immer sehr faszinierend. Als ich kürzlich mit einem Freund gesprochen habe, habe ich entdeckt einen sehr wichtigen verpasst zu haben: Als 2011 die 150 Jahre der Italienischen Einheit gefeiert wurden, gab es einen Wettbewerb zwischen allen italienischen Schulen, um einen Doodle zu erfinden, mit dem Ziel „Italien in 150 Jahren“ darzustellen. Der absolute Sieger ist das Bild von einer Grundschule der Region Marche (oben) und trägt den Namen „Weiter mit Energie“. Ich finde diesen Doodle sehr inspirierend für unsere Zukunft und gratuliere den Siegern!
