Titanic... 100 years after

Esattamente 100 anni fa, nella notte tra il 14 ed il 15 aprile, affondava il Titanic. La tragedia ha ispirato molti romanzi e film, e un libro che ho apprezzato tantissimo e di cui parlavo in un post di qualche tempo fa è The Captain's Daughter (La Strada in Fondo al Mare) di Leah Fleming. Come dicevo: un romanzo che parla di coraggio, salvezza e amore, sullo sfondo della tragedia del Titanic. Due continenti, tre generazioni e tre famiglie in una storia che attraversa mezzo secolo e che merita davvero di essere letta! 

Exactly 100 years ago, in the night from the 14th to the 15th of April, the Titanic sank. The tragedy has inspired many novels and movies, and a book I really appresciated a lot is The Captain's Daughter by Leah Fleming, about which I wrote a post some time ago. As I was saying: a novel about courage, love and salvation, with the Titanic tragedy in the background. Two continents, three generations and three families in a story that lasts half a century and that really deserves to be read!

Vor genau 100 Jahren, in der Nacht vom 14. auf den 15. April, sank die Titanic. Die Tragödie hat viele Romane und Filme inspiriert, und ein Buch, das mir besonders gefallen hat, über das ich vor einiger Zeit ein Post geschrieben habe, ist The Captain's Daughter von Leah Fleming. Wie ich schon sagte: Ein Roman, der von Mut, Liebe und Erlösung handelt, mit der Titanic-Tragödie im Hintergrund. Zwei Kontinente, drei Generationen und drei Familien in einer Geschichte, die ein halbes Jahrhundert dauert und die es wirklich wert ist, gelesen zu werden!

The Lady: Aung San Suu Kyi

Qualche giorno fa ho avuto la fortuna di vedere lo splendido film "The Lady" incentrato sull'operato, ma soprattutto sul lato più privato della vita di Aung San Suu Kyi, la grandissima donna che da anni è attiva per la difesa dei diritti umani e per affermare la democrazia in Birmania e che per il suo Paese ha davvero dato tutto. Un film che consiglio assolutamente: chiaro, bellissimo e commovente, e che non può lasciarci indifferenti.

A few days ago I've seen the wonderful movie "The Lady", which deals with the great actions of Aung San Suu Kyi and especially with the more private aspects of her life. Since many years she is actively defending human rights and democracy in Burma, giving everything for her country. A movie I absolutely recommend: clear, beautiful and moving, and that can't leave us indifferent. 

Vor einigen Tagen habe ich das Glück gehabt den wundervollen Film "The Lady" über Aung San Suu Kyi zu sehen, der besonders von der Privatsphäre ihres Lebens handelt. Seit vielen Jahren kämpft sie in ihrem Heimatland Burma, für das sie alles hingegeben hat, gewaltlos um Menschenrechte und Demokratie. Ein absolut empfehlenswerter Film: Klar, wunderschön und rührend, der uns wirklich nicht gleichgültig lassen kann.

Motion photography: Happy Birthday Muybridge!

Oggi è il 182° anniversario della nascita del fotografo inglese Eadweard J. Muybridge, pioniere della fotografia del movimento e anche del cinema. E' autore di numerosi studi su animali ed esseri umani in movimento (facendo molte scoperte interessanti!). Oggi Google gli dedica un bellissimo Doodle animato per ricordarlo.

Today is the 182nd birthday anniversary of the English photographer Eadweard J. Muybridge. He was a pioneer of motion photography and cinema and made many studies of animals and humans in motion (with a lot of interesting findings!). Today's animated Google Doodle is dedicated to him.

Heute ist der 182. Geburtstag des englischen Fotografen  Eadweard J. Muybridge. Er war ein Pionier der Bewegungsfotografie und des Kinos und hat viele Studien über die Bewegungen von Tieren und Menschen geführt (mit vielen interessanten Entdeckungen!). Heute widmet ihm Google ein animiertes Doodle.

Per festeggiare la Pasqua insieme, alcune immagini delle bellissime Uova di Fabergè realizzate dal famoso gioielliere russo Peter Karl Fabergè nel 19°/20° secolo. Il primo uovo, con la struttura a Matrioska, era un regalo dello zar Alessandro III di Russia a sua moglie Marija Fëdorovna come sorpresa di Pasqua! 

To celebrate Easter together, here are some pictures of the wonderful Fabergè Eggs created by the famous Russian jeweler Peter Karl Fabergè in the 19th/20th century. The first egg, with a Matrioska structure, was a present from zar Alexander III to his wife Marija Fëdorovna as an Eastersurprise!

Um Ostern gemeinsam zu feiern gibt es hier einige Bilder der wunderschönen Fabergè Eier, die im 19./20. Jahrhundert vom berühmten russischen Juwelier Peter Karl Fabergè hergestellt wurden. Das erste Ei, mit Matrioska Struktur, war ein Geschenk des Zaren Alexander III an seine Frau Marija Fëdorovna als Osterüberraschung!

Il Tempo delle Mele: un film eterno sui piccoli grandi problemi dell'adolescenza, un film cult che ha lanciato molte mode (taglio di capelli della protagonista, la salopette azzurra, i pattini a rotelle in discoteca,...) e soprattutto un film che ci fa sognare con la sua meravigliosa colonna sonora (che potete ascoltare qui sotto)! 

E voi cosa pensate di film e canzone? 

La Boum (The Party): a timeless movie about teenage's small big problems, a cult movie that has set many trends (the protagonist's haircut, the blue overall, roller-skates in the discotheque,...) and above all a movie that makes us dream along its wonderful soundtrack (you can listen to it below)!

And what do you think about movie and song?

La Boum (Die Fete): ein zeitloser Film in dem es um die kleinen großen Sorgen des Teenagealters geht, ein Kultfilm, der als echter Trendsetter gelten kann (Haarfrisur der Protagonistin, die hellblaue Latzhose, die Rollschuhe in der Diskothek,...) und besonders ein Film, der uns mit seinem wunderbaren Soundtrack (den ihr euch hier unten anhören könnt) zu träumen erlaubt!
